Echo Chamber: an online hate installation is an immersive installation confronting the relentless, inescapable nature of online hate.

About

In this work, digital abuse takes on a physical, unignorable form of a chandelier made from phones. Messaging an ever-growing cascade of anonymous comments, slurs, and threats projected throughout the screensavers. The echoes of notification sounds are as loud as the voices get within a constant, oppressive loop.

Online hate is not harmless or detached from the physical world; it can fracture mental health, deteriorate self-worth, and encourage fear and isolation. For marginalised communities in particular, the weight of constant digital aggression can become a form of invisible violence. One that seeps into everyday life, relationships, and a sense of safety.
